I bought Download Queue from Olive Toast Sofware some days ago at mupromo for $9.99. It is a very nice and faster download manganger for Mac OS X. Today I release some Automator Actions for it:

DNS-O-Matic Updater Script 1.0

DNS-O-Matic Updater Script is a simple AppleScript to update your external IP on DNS-O-Matic. You simply put your username and password in, save it and could run it.

It has some nice advantages above other clients:

Stay out of the way
No memory usage (just runs and then quits)
Really small
Easy to change your self
No dock or menu icon

You could start it an various ways:

Script Editor
Script Menu
Save it as an app to start it in the dock or your favorite app launcher
Run it as system agent by adding it with Lingon
Use it in Automator actions

jHeidi is HeidiSQL is for Mac and Linux

HeidiSQL, a new (old) MySQL GUI, is an easy-to-use interface and a â€œworking-horseâ€ for web-developers using the popular MySQL-Database. It allows you to manage and browse your databases and tables from an intuitive Windows interface.

From the developers of HeidiSql come a new java-based companion which is actually in alpha stage. The final version of jHeidi should provide a basic subset of features of HeidiSQL for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows.

The alpha version implements the following features from HeidiSQL

Connection profile management
Instance, db, table, field browsing.
Create/Update/Drop DB, table, field, index
Query window for interactive SQL queries
Save/Load SQL scripts from query window
Allow multiple sessions/connections
Syntax colorized SQL/log view and query window
Refresh current view

While all features of jHeidi have been tested, the testing has not been rigorous in comparison with the mature HeidiSQL. Although enough testing has been done to ensure that your database will not be damaged by a bug in jHeidi, if you are working on production databases you should be using HeidiSQL. This preview is meant for primarily for developers on development systems.

OpenDNS

Seit heute benutzte ich mal wieder OpenDNS. OpenDNS ist ein kostenloser Domain Name Service, der einem ein paar schöne Vorteile zum normalen DNS Service eures Providers biete.

Um OpenDNS zu nutzen muss man nur zwei IP-Adressen bei DNS-Server, in den Netzwerk-Systemeinstellungen, eintragen und schon läuft es: 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220. Die genaue Anleitung gibt es hier.

Vorteile sind zum Beispiel:

schnelleres Aufrufen von Webseiten
Block von Pishingseiten
Inhaltsfilterung
Ausfiltern von “Erwachsenen Seiten” und bestimmten anderen Kategorien von Webseiten
Ausfiltern von bestimmten Domains
Automatische Korrektur von Tippfehlern bei der Domainangabe
Domain shortcuts

Wenn man sich einen Account anlegt bekommt man mehr Einstellmöglichkeiten, die man zum Bespiel für das Filtering braucht. Da die Accounteinstellungen nur im Zusammenhang mit der aktuellen IP-Adresse seines Internetzugangs richtig funktionieren, muss diese bei OpenDNS gespeichert sein. Man kann seine IP-Adresse per Browser aktualisieren oder besser automatisch per DNS-O-Matic und einem kleinen Tool (das ich übrigens bald hier veröffentliche, also am besten schon mal meinen Feed abonnieren). DNS-O-Matic ist übrigens von den selben Machern wie OpenDNS und aktualisiert nicht nur die IP-Adresse bei OpenDNS sondern auch bei vielen anderen Services wie No-IP.com oder DynDNS.

Secrets – A collection of Mac OS X user defaults

Secrets ist ein nettes kleines Tool vom Autor “Alcor“, der schon vom beliebten Quicksilver bekannt ist. Bei Secrets handelt es sich um eine Systemeinstellungserweiterung, die dir eine grafische Benutzeroberfläche bietet um versteckte Einstellung von Programmen zu aktivieren an die man sonst nur per Terminal herankommt. Es gibt viele Einstellungen, die direkt bei Secrets dabei sind, allerdings gibt es auch die Möglichkeit neue “Secrets” zu übermitteln. So ist die Onlinedatenbank auch ohne die Nutzung der eigentlichen Software eine schöne Fundgrube.

Ich habe heute meine erste Misson bei macheist beendet. Es war auch gar nicht so schwer und es macht Spaß und das beste man bekommt noch kostenlose Shareware. Wer auch mitmachen möchte kann sich bei mir melden, noch habe ich 7 Einladungen über.
